Here it is again! Christmas that is; accompanied by yet another blustery snowy winter. Apparently, these shorter days and longer nights account as being the season to be merry. Hmm, that’s questionable, especially for the 16% of the population who recently participated in a government study about living with arthritis. In Canada it is estimated that 4.2 million people currently cope with the chronic challenges of arthritis and those stats are expected to reach upwards to 7 million by 2031.
Not surprisingly a majority of people reported that maintaining their self care, doing things like trimming toe nails, preparing food and keeping medications straight was difficult. Finding helping aids for such mundane tasks are what we at boomazoo are all about. We sell what people need not necessarily what they want. Surf through our marketplace and you will likely find inventions you didn’t know existed; I marvel at finding unique yet pragmatic products.
As it turns out, going shopping was identified as a key area of difficulty by more than 50% of the study’s participants. I can certainly attest to this statement. It made me think about all the types of physical pain brought about by preparing for the Christmas season. On the one hand, there are extra food items that need to be shopped and unpacked, and on the other hand, is the endless struggle to find precious gifts for friends and family. I have to admit that dragging a walker through snow to purchase gifts does little to put me in the Christmas spirit. A few years back I started to shop online. Oh La La!
Each year I do more and more shopping right here from my computer screen. An advertising jingle from years gone by sings through my mind. “Let your fingers do the shopping ...” Originally meant for the yellow pages of the phone book, this adage now rings true for web pages. I do admit though, finding the right gifts still takes some time and thought. This year I discovered a few good Canadian online shops. Within less than an hour I had the majority of my shopping completed. In addition to arriving in good time, my items were nicely packaged in festive paper and sported a candy cane for good measure (of which I’m keeping).
Luckily not all my friends are in need of health care aids and helpful gadgets, but of course those who are …well it would suffice to say they can expect a boomazoo gift.
However, for Christmas shoppers who have arthritis or other physical challenges I can guarantee you that shopping online is your ticket to less pain and more Christmas spirit. Happy Shopping!
