When physical limitations make zipping around like you once did during young days more difficult, it is really important to have activities to do that are enjoyable and interesting. It’s not something we think about but selecting a hobby early on can be a godsend. Of course just what exactly constitutes as being a hobby will differ among people. A retired photographer for example would not likely select photography as a hobby where as an accountant may.

If a senior in your life is not overly creative by nature then it is unlikely that would suddenly launch into painting landscapes or sculpting. However, that is not to say if the interest had been pushed to the backburner, this might the time to dust off those abandon interests. It’s never too late to learn new things when the interest is in tact.

Giving someone a gift that is hobby related is tricky if you don’t first know what their real interests are or what their abilities will allow. Purchasing materials for someone to make a stain glass window that has dexterity difficulties would be a disaster. I’d start by focusing on ability first than look at a range a hobby items that could comply.

For women who once enjoyed knitting or doing embroidery but stopped due to arthritic challenges there are helpful aids to make these sorts of activities possible. These same aids could be helpful for men too who might like to make car or air plane models. Retirement is the perfect time to do things that got pushed aside for various reasons it just may involve working around a challenge or two.
