The only way to check your blood pressure is to have it tested. Once you are alerted to the fact there is a problem, medication could be provided but even so, it is in your best interest to check your pressure often. Blood pressure cuffs are readily available from health care retailers, and many stores now offer a testing machine that can be used at no cost in the store. What is a good score? Anything close to, or below 130 for the higher number and 85 or less for the lower level; 125/80 would be an average reading.
There are nine specific actions you can do to improve and lower your blood pressure, they are:
• Reduce and monitor your weight
• Reduce and monitor your alcohol intake
• Reduce and monitor the amount of salt you use
• Increase eating foods with potassium; fruits, vegetables, nuts
• Do not smoke, quit!
• Rest more and learn to relax; find ways to cope with stress
• Find activities that are suitable for you and exercise 3 times a week
• Follow medications regiments correctly
• If need be, purchase a self testing cuff and use it
All good gamblers are mindful of their betting odds; winning is the goal after all. Be a smart gambler, make sure the odds are in your favor; check your blood pressure.
